Some details about the different subjects

At GVS Maths is taught to every class on an almost daily basis. Girls begin in Form 1 with a range of arithmetic, geometry and the introduction of algebra. Pupils are expected to learn their multiplication tables as the work their way through long multiplication and division calculations. Every lesson provides revision exercises for the pupils to complete, enabling them to practise all they have learned in the lesson.

Geography is a very interesting subject at GVS. Pupils have the oportunity to learn about our planet and the other planets in our solar syatem. They are shown how the planets are arranged and the effects of the earth movements on our daily lives and the lives of people in other regions of the world. We look at the different temperate zones of the world and compare climates to our own, looking at changes moving north to south along the Prime Meridian and east to west along the Equator.Girls are taught about the continents and distribution of populations and natural resources. We focus on Cameroon and its industries and natural resources. The girls learn about the different styles of farming and agriculture relative to our own North and South West provinces.

The study of Child Care begins in Form 1 when students are a minimum of 12 years old. They are taught about sexual reproduction in humans and the danger of HIV/AIDS. These lessons are followed by classes on what to expect during pregnancy and how to keep yourself clean and healthy. Then the girls are taught and shown how to care for a new born baby. Breast feeding is explained alongwith washing the baby and maintaining a healthy diet and living environment for the child.
